I have chosen to make a series about tattoos, and how they are an expression of one’s personality. Since I was 16, I have wanted tattoos. I only have one but have lots of ideas for others. My first tattoo I got was of Guatemala on my left under arm. I was born in Guatemala, then adopted when I was a year and a half, and my brothers are also adopted from there. I got my tattoo last March, and have looked at it every day since. I got it because I want to have something that will always remind me of how I could have had a different life.
I love asking my friends to model for me because they always love having pictures taken of them. After asking them to model their tattoos for me I had them then write about why they have them. Two of my roommates have tattoos, including ones they gave to themselves. They had the opportunity to explain why they wanted to give themselves tattoos, and how hard or easy the process was.
Some people want tattoos that simply look cool, but some pick tattoos that have meaning. Some have both. I want both. I know there are lots of people who are against tattoos, so this project is for them. I am showing the beauty of tattoos, and how personal they can be.
