Chinese Zodiac 2020 Version
Digital Illustration, 24”x 24”, 2020

In my version of the Chinese Zodiac, I want to focus on the animals and how their personalities are relatable to human personalities. The way I look at the Chinese zodiac animals, I see more than just their features. I see the personalities they portray and how it can also relate to human personalities. I want people to think that these zodiac animals are not just animals but have similar personalities to people’s personalities. When people look at the year on the zodiac, they will know their personality is like to a specific animal. For people who don’t know about the Chinese zodiac, this will explain their personality in animal reference.

I choose to recreate the zodiac animals because I was thinking about Chinese New Year. Then I decided to do more research about the story behind the zodiac animals. After doing some research, I sketched some ideas on how I should illustrate the zodiac animals. I wanted to illustrate the Chinese zodiac animals because I wanted to test my abilities in illustration. Once I did, I decided to draw the animals from scratch. Then I was able to find some type choices that are both readable and beautiful.
