The Adaptive Abilities of Animals
Digital Media, 11”x17” series, 2020

My focus is to demonstrate animal use of adaptive innovation rather than instinctual survival. As humans, we have developed ways to make our survival much easier by the use of tools and inventions. We tend to identify ourselves separate from other animals because of our way of life. We’ve built our own kingdom inside the animal kingdom which makes it easy to forget that we are still a part of. Although we may seem separate, animals are slowly adapting to the use of tools to make their way of life and survival much easier. In my work, I show six different scenarios in which animals have become innovative in their survival through the use of tools and adaptability in the kingdom we share. To compare how humans would use those certain tools and adaptability, I have placed them in human scenarios to show the adaptive qualities of the animals. I have taken information from actual research on these certain animals and real-life events. I chose to incorporate a strong linear design on the animals with a basic background to bring emphasis on the animal and acknowledge the background as a familiar setting. Overall, I present this work as informational and hope that you as the viewer learn something that you didn’t know before.
