Our memories are precious; they make up who we are and tell us where we came from. When researching memory, I came to the realization that our memories are more fragile and less accurate than we believe. Every time we remember something, we are recreating that memory. Essentially, the more we remember, the less accurate it becomes. As we grow older, our early memories begin to fade. We forget most of the details but try to retain the importance of those moments that we’ll never get back. For many of us, our only recollection of our childhood is through family photos. We’ll spend the rest of our lives trying to fill the gaps of a past that our minds have fabricated. It’s as if we’re on the outside looking in; creating a new memory in place of something that we have long forgotten.
