My Old Kentucky Home
Book, 2020

For this project, I wanted to create something that shows off my creative voice and design skills as well as promoting my home state of Kentucky and all of the things that make it unique. I have designed a book that gives a glimpse into some of the most important parts of the culture of Kentucky, including bourbon, horse racing, and bluegrass music. The book also includes some of my favorite aspects of Kentucky that aren’t as well known like specific local restaurants, breweries, and state parks.

Since the beginning of my design career I have gained a lot of experience in a variety of different digital mediums, programs, and styles of design, but the one that has been most interesting to me is layout design. Although I have created several shorter books that show off my skills as a layout designer, I wanted to create something more large-scale that fully captures my style and skill as the designer that I have become. I focused on using a color palette that is eye-catching and visually pleasing, font pairings that are clean and easily understood, and color blocks to give the book more dimension and detail. These are things that I tend to focus on in a lot of my projects now and including them in this book allows me to begin to form my own creative voice and style that is unique to me and brings something new to the table.
