The world of Arnold’s Adventure
Conceptual Work, 10in x 8in, 2020

When creating the world of Arnold’s Adventure, I wanted to tell the story of what it was like to experience something new, and like it, despite how others thought you would feel about it. I grew up in a small, rural town in the Appalachian Mountains, so when I moved to Lexington to pursue college, I had no doubts that I would come to love the city. However, my parents insisted that I would hate the city as they do, and that I would prefer the life I had back home. Unsurprisingly, I enjoyed the city and ended up making life-long friends here, just like Arnold does in his adventure. Arnold and I were right about liking the city—and this conceptual work aims to show what Arnold’s world and character will be like when fully realized. In these illustrations, I want to show key moments of the story and help visualize how the characters could act and operate in their set environments.
