Brain Brew
Digital illustration, 2020

My work is drawing based. The illustrations presented here are created in a part digital, part analog style in the form of stickers. This process seeks to create a more personal connection between the viewer through the hand drawn line and ornamentation. The thicker lines and delicate details are added in layer by layer. This technique allows for a range of movement, connecting each sticker with the next.

While the individual stickers are based on the concept of a warped tea party, the subject matter itself originates from television and childhood reminiscences of Halloween and spooky toys. The first sticker I created started with each illustration drawn separately, then combined together to make a teacup of witch’s brew, falling from an unseen source. This brew is filled with eyeballs, bones, and bugs that were integrated digitally to flow with the liquid. This brew is seen in the teapot as well, with one sticker moving to the next. The plate of sandwiches follows this movement, with each sandwich falling in a way that flows with the other stickers in the final piece. The finer elements, such as the stars and bubbles, are then interplayed into each sticker, further connecting the flow of the falling tea party.
